Ministry of Education Software Agreement 2010 to 2012 – Apple Software FAQs

Q. If our school is already registered as part of the MoE Software Agreement 2007 - 2009, do we need to do anything to be included in the 2010 - 2012 Agreement?
A. If you are registered, then your school will remain part of the new three year Agreement and you don't need to do anything.
Email: moesoftware@red.co.nz or Phone: 0800 733 725.

Q. Who is RED and why does this information go to RED and not The Ministry of Education?
A. Renaissance Education (RED) is the Apple distributor for education in New Zealand. RED has managed the current and earlier Software Agreements with the Ministry of Education.
RED also looks after the Laptops for Teachers programme (TELA) and provides support, advice and professional development for schools throughout New Zealand (see http://www.red.co.nz/).

Q. What software is included in the new Agreement?
A. The Agreement has purchased Apple Maintenance Program (AMP) for software updates/upgrades for the the following:
1. Apple iWork currently including integrated software for documents (Pages), spreadsheets (Numbers) and presentations (Keynote).
2. Apple iLife currently including integrated applications for working with photos (iPhoto), movies (iMovie), music and podcasts (GarageBand) web sites (iWeb) and DVDs (iDVD)
3. Apple operating system (Mac OS)
Software has not been purchased by the new Agreement, only the updates for the next 3 years to existing software. This is why it is critical that schools register before 15 December 2009, since the 2007-2009 Agreement also covers the purchase of the software.
The 2007-2009 Agreement does include Kid Pix. The 2010-2012 Agreement does not include Kid Pix.

Q. How do we get updates for the Apple software?
A. For small updates, schools should continue to use the Software Updates on-line process. For larger updates/versions, each school will be sent one copy of the media directly as part of the Agreement. This will occur within 10 days from launch in this geography.

Q. How much does this cost the school?
A. The Ministry of Education Software Agreement pays for what is described above. There is no charge to the school unless;
* You lose the media sent (you will need to purchase the replacement media).
* You are an independent school.

Q. Are independent schools included in the 2010-2012 Agreement?
A. Provision has been made within the Agreement to enable independent to purchase the Apple software maintenance (AMP) from RED. Please contact your RED Account Manager or call 0800 733 725.

Q. How do I get further information about the Software Agreement and the Apple software?
A. Email moesoftware@red.co.nz, or phone on RED SALES (or 0800 733 725).
